Inquiry under section 143 of the Casino Control Act 1992 (NSW)

The Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority (ILGA) established an Inquiry under section 143 of the Casino Control Act 1992 (NSW) on 14 August 2019 (the Inquiry). The Terms of Reference of the Inquiry (as amended on 23 June 2020) may be accessed here.

As required by the Amended Terms of Reference, the Commissioner delivered a report to the Authority on 1 February 2021.  On 9 February 2021 the report was tabled in Parliament.  It is available at this link.

Communications regarding the report should be directed to the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority at ilga.secretariat@liquorandgaming.nsw.gov.au.

The Hon PA Bergin SC (the Commissioner) has been appointed to conduct the Inquiry. The Commissioner has powers and authorities conferred on a commissioner by the Royal Commissions Act 1923 (NSW).

The Terms of Reference provide that hearings are to be held in public unless the Commissioner is satisfied that it is convenient to conduct hearings in private.

On 24 June 2020, ILGA made an announcement regarding the resumption of this Inquiry following its deferral on 3 April 2020.  That announcement is available here.

The Commissioner has invited public submissions in respect of the matters referred to in the Terms of Reference. A copy of that invitation may be accessed here. During the course of the Inquiry, the Commissioner extended the time by which submissions would be accepted to 30 November 2020.
